Beauty with Purpose: Our Commitment to Sustainable Floristry

One of the most impactful choices we make is simply growing what naturally thrives in our climate and season.

Instead of importing flowers year-round, we focus on:

  • Farming as many of our own blooms as possible

  • Designing with what’s currently in season

  • Letting nature guide our offerings

This approach reduces transportation emissions, conserves resources, and results in fresher, longer-lasting flowers. It also means every bouquet reflects the beauty of the moment—whether that’s spring tulips, summer dahlias, or autumn foliage.

🌿 Thoughtful Use of Floral Foam

Traditional floral foam is widely used in the industry, but it’s not biodegradable and contributes to microplastic pollution.

We work hard to avoid it whenever possible by using:

  • Reusable mechanics

  • Natural supports

  • Sustainable design techniques

When foam is truly necessary for structural or safety reasons, we use it sparingly and intentionally—never by default. Our goal is always to balance beauty, stability, and environmental responsibility.

🚐 Low-Impact Deliveries with Electric Vehicles

Getting flowers from our farm to your hands matters just as much as how they’re grown.

That’s why we prioritize:

  • Electric vehicle deliveries

  • Efficient delivery routes

  • Reduced fuel emissions

By lowering our transportation footprint, we’re able to offer fresh flowers with a lighter impact on the planet.

🌾 Supporting Local Soil Health with Local Compost

Healthy flowers start with healthy soil.

We source compost locally whenever possible, supporting nearby producers while reducing transportation emissions. This compost helps us:

  • Improve soil structure

  • Retain moisture

  • Feed beneficial microbes

  • Reduce the need for synthetic inputs

It’s one more way we keep our growing practices rooted in community and sustainability.

🌼 Organic-Minded Growing Practices

While we are not certified organic, we follow organic-focused best practices in our daily farming.

That means:

  • No synthetic fertilizers

  • No routine chemical pesticides

  • A strong focus on soil health and plant resilience

  • Preventative care through crop rotation, spacing, and biodiversity

We believe in working with nature, not against it. In rare cases where a serious threat could endanger an entire crop, we remain open to careful, minimal intervention—but only as a last resort. Our priority is always long-term soil and ecosystem health.

♻️ Closing the Loop: Reuse, Recycle, Compost

Sustainability doesn’t end after the flowers are cut.

We work hard to minimize waste by:

  • Composting spent flowers, stems, and greenery

  • Reusing branches and plant material as mulch

  • Reusing floral mechanics whenever possible

  • Repurposing cardboard as weed barriers

  • Recycling packaging materials

Many “waste” materials still have life left in them. By finding creative ways to reuse and return them to the land, we reduce landfill waste and support a more circular system.

🌍 Why It Matters

Every choice we make—big or small—adds up.

By farming seasonally, minimizing waste, reducing emissions, and caring for our soil, we’re working toward a flower system that is:

  • Healthier for the environment

  • Better for pollinators and wildlife

  • More resilient for the future

  • More transparent for our customers

When you choose our flowers, you’re not just choosing beauty. You’re supporting thoughtful farming, local stewardship, and a commitment to doing better—every season.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us.

With gratitude,

Rachel & the Wishflower Team
